This drink is creamy, bright, and jammed with a sweet tropical twist. Every sip reminds me of a chill summer holiday. I grab this any time I want something healthy that feels special. It works for breakfast or a snack for kids in the afternoon.

The very first batch wowed my kids with its gorgeous swirls, so now we make it on weekends whenever we want a boost of cheer at the table.

Ingredients List

  • Unsweetened coconut milk drink: Adds a light coconut flavor and keeps it drinkable. Check for short and simple ingredients, no extra sugars.
  • Coconut Greek yogurt: Makes things creamy and adds protein, plus a little tang. Glance at the label to be sure it’s really coconutty and has those active cultures.
  • Frozen pineapple: Throws in chill and a punch of tropical flavor. Go for frozen chunks without extra sweeteners.
  • Ripe banana: Frozen and peeled, it’s super creamy and brings mild sweetness. Look for bananas with brown specks.
  • Fresh strawberries: They should be bright red and juicy. Strawberries are what really make this sweet and bold.

Easy Directions

Serve Right Away:
Drink it immediately for the smoothest taste and texture. If you want an all-mixed smoothie, just toss everything into the blender and let it go.
Keep Layering:
Pour in more colada mix, then add strawberry purée, repeating these steps so your glass has three layers. End with a swirl on top.
Mix in Strawberry Purée:
Spoon in the strawberry layer right over the colada mix in each glass. Gently swirl with a butter knife so it looks marbled.
Fill Your Glasses:
Start with the pineapple-coconut blend. Fill each glass about a third full.
Blend Everything but Strawberries:
Dump in the frozen banana, pineapple, coconut yogurt, and 1 1/4 cups of coconut milk. Blend until it’s all silky. Too thick? Add a splash more milk.
Make Strawberry Purée:
Add your strawberries to a food processor and blend until super smooth. This is the base for your swirl.

I can’t get over how the coconut yogurt makes every sip taste richer and just tangy enough. Around here, we started calling this little treat the sunshine cup. No joke, it cheers up any breakfast or snack.

Keeping Extras

Toss leftovers in a sealed jar or bottle in the fridge for up to a day. It might get thicker as it sits. Just shake or stir it well. If it’s too thick, add more coconut milk before you drink it again.

Swap Suggestions

You can go with plain Greek yogurt if coconut isn’t your thing. For a plant-based drink, use coconut or almond yogurt. Want it tangy? Switch out banana for frozen mango pieces.

Fun Ways to Serve

Throw on some cut strawberries, coconut flakes, or crunchy granola if it’s breakfast. Planning a party? Set up a topping bar so everyone can do their own.

Quick Backstory

This drink is inspired by piña colada, just without the booze. Swap it out for fruit and yogurt so everyone can sip. It’s a favorite for my family’s brunch weekends and works great as a light sweet after dinner too.

Common Recipe Questions

→ Can I swap in frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones?

Yep, frozen strawberries are totally fine. They make your drink even thicker and frostier, which is pretty awesome.

→ What can I use if I don’t have coconut Greek yogurt?

No coconut Greek yogurt? Try regular Greek yogurt or grab any plant-based style instead. Either way, you’ll still get that nice creamy vibe.

→ How do I tone down the sweetness?

If it’s too sweet, just use less banana or pineapple. Going for unsweetened coconut milk and yogurt helps too.

→ Tips for nailing those swirly layers?

Pour your pineapple mix and strawberry blend in turns, then gently move a knife around in the glass for a funky swirl before sipping.

→ Can I make this ahead of time?

You can blend it and pop it in the fridge for a bit, but it’s tastiest when fresh. Give it a quick stir if it separates.

→ How about a dairy-free version?

For sure! Use dairy-free coconut yogurt and make sure your coconut milk doesn’t have any dairy in it for a totally plant-based drink.

Output: 2 Number of Servings (2 glasses)

Special Diets: Meat-Free, No Gluten

What You'll Need

→ Dairy & Liquids

01 300 to 360 ml coconut milk (make sure it’s unsweetened)
02 150 g coconut Greek yogurt

→ Base Ingredients

03 210 g pineapple, frozen chunks
04 1 banana, frozen without peel
05 225 g strawberries, chilled and stems removed

Steps to Follow

Step 01

Drink right after making it—that’s when it tastes best. Don’t want layers? Toss everything in the blender for a quick all-in-one mix.

Step 02

Do another round with each layer—pineapple then strawberry—until you can’t add more. Go for strawberry on top to finish.

Step 03

Pour about a third of that pineapple mix into each cup. Drop in some strawberry puree and gently twist it through with a butter knife.

Step 04

Drop the frozen banana, frozen pineapple, coconut yogurt, and 300 ml coconut milk in your blender. Hit blend until it’s all one color. Too thick? Splash in up to 60 ml more coconut milk.

Step 05

Toss the strawberries in your food processor and blend until totally smooth and no chunks are left.

Additional Tips

  1. Stacking your smoothie looks pretty, but blending it all together gives you a silkier sip.
